FIVE STARS!!! from Babbling Becky L’s

I discovered an unknown gem yesterday. The Curious Prayer Life of Muriel Smith by Carol Raj is a hoot!! I laughed out loud, startling others around me many times. Poor Muriel thinks God is not hearing or answering her prayers. WRONG!! God is a big part of this book and works in mysterious, yet somehow believable ways to create the new life Muriel needs after becoming a widow. For a book with such humor, the characters are very well-rounded and I loved both Muriel AND the car-jacker. It is amazing how God uses two very different people to help each other. If you’ve read the Agnes Sparrow books or Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus, you might love this one! The style and humor are similar. I am very happy to enthusiastically recommend this book!

One unlocked car door, one glance to the left, and suddenly, impoverished retiree Muriel Smith is hurtling down the road at an alarming thirty miles per hour!

Will the teenage carjacker really shoot to kill? Muriel can’t die yet. Not until she’s accomplished something to make her daughter proud. Not until she’s seen her great-grandchild, the unborn baby her granddaughter isn’t sure she wants to keep. It seems Muriel is running out of time. Especially if her survival depends on her driving skills!

Muriel and her carjacker find themselves on a wild adventure that has them both falling “victim” to Muriel’s curious prayer life.

  1. Faith

This was a delightful and inspirational book. The dry humor was a hoot. The characters were lovable and realistic. I especially enjoyed Muriel and her prayers. The whole line of the plot which shows how God answers prayer, but not always in the way we expect, was encouraging and incited me to trust God more. And it brought to mind the many times God has worked in my life in a similar way. This is a book I gladly recommend to everyone, young and old.

The narration was too slow for me. I used a higher speed to listen, but otherwise it was good. I liked the “old lady” voice a lot. Well done!

I requested this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed and have voluntarily left this review.
