I enjoyed this book, this is the first book by this author I have read or listened too but it won’t be the last as I have already downloaded the next book. It is nice easy listen with plenty of character and a great cast. The Sherlock theme that runs throughout the story is nicely done and doesn’t over power or take over the story, so even if you aren’t a fan of Holmes you can still enjoy it. The mystery was interesting and gave you plenty of clues for you to work out who is behind it all. I loved the characters and the very different job if not career for the many character to have. I found Lucy and her sidekick Cindy them to be humours at times but still very capable of solving the crime. Off to start the next book.
Lucy can’t decide what she wants to do for a living, so finds herself changing majors at a drop of a hat and working as an assistant manager at a movie theater. There she has gained a reputation of being able to solve mysteries, so when somebody leaves behind an unusual umbrella she is given the job of returning it to it owner. The returning is easy, with a bit sticker saying it is from the local museum but it is what she finds at the museum that is puzzling. A staff member hires her to find out what is going on with the new exhibit. The owner of the collection only wants his security guards used but they seem inept eating on the job or not turning up and some thing isn’t right. Then a colleague from the theatre is attacked after seeing the exhibits, a man who lives near the back entrance to the museum dies from an apparent heart attack. Lucy thinks they might just be connected. To solve this case she will have to channel her favourite fictional detective to get to the bottom of what is really going on in the museum and why someone broke into her apartment.
I liked the narrator and thought she really helped to bring both the story and the characters alive.

A modern retelling of Doyle’s Sherlock is a definite read for any true Sherlock Holmes fans. SJ Slagle captures the essence of Holmes and Watson with Lucy and Cindy with many nods to Sherlock’s of the past. While the story itself is captivating, the narrator, at times, sounded as though an AI was reading coming off a bit mechanical, but kudos must be given to Allen for the various voices to distinguish the characters.
