Description

A Scottish legacy…A political rebellion…Two hearts destined to meet…

Raised in his father’s image, the Earl of Stanfeld is practical and disciplined. There are no gray lines interrupting the Gideon’s black and white world. Until his mother has a dream and begs to return to her Highland home.

Alisabeth was betrothed from the cradle. At 17, she marries her best friend and finds happiness if not passion. In less than a year, a political rebellion makes her a widow. The handsome English earl arrives a month later and rouses her desire and a terrible guilt.

Crossing the border into Scotland, Gideon finds his predictable world turned upside down. Folklore, legend, and political unrest intertwine with an unexpected attraction to a feisty Highland beauty. When the earl learns of an English plot to stir the Scots into rebellion, he must choose his country or save the clan and the woman who stirs his soul.

  1. Rosemary HUGHES

He was the son of an English Earl, and a daughter of a Scottish Laird.
She had been his Scottish cousin’s wife, before his death in an Edinburgh riot.
He came to Scotland on his mother’s vision, used his gift when it was required, to assist the righteous in their quest for legal assistance.
    Together they would be unstoppable.

I have just recently become acquainted with this author, Aubrey Wynne and I must say I am impressed. I love the way she weaves history into this story. The romance is not “mushy” but sweet and realistic. There is excitement and love and loyalty; lines to be drawn and decisions about the side to be taken. Good book if you like historical novels.

I requested this audio book from Audiobooks Unleashed and have voluntarily left this review

  3. Sheri MacNutt

While this is a clean historical romance, it isn’t dull. Some of the events are based on real events which I found added to the story. The characters were well developed and the scenes were descriptive without being overdone. I will definitely try other books from this author and narrator.

    Great Story Historical Bonus
This is the type of story I enjoy set in a historical time and place. Alisabeth’s adult life has a tragic beginning with little hope of a bright future. Set in England and Scotland during several upheavals and suspicions, she finds her in-laws have certain gifts and a charming cousin, Gideon the Earl of Stanfield. The narrator was excellent. And a bonus is that this is Book 3 in the 4 Book Once Upon A Widow Series, so I can read on.
