Description

A prison guard. A postmaster. A Forest Service employee. A US Department of Agriculture employee. All murdered. They worked for the federal government, but so do a lot of other people. What else did they share?

Seems like a serial killer is on the loose. And it looks like he’s targeting the sleepy community of Red Cedar. When one of the Red Cedar Spa’s guests is murdered, Liz has no choice but to team up with an FBI agent to help solve the murders.

And with a chief of police who is far more interested in catching speeders than he is in catching murderers, someone has to do his job. Maybe Liz should run for chief of police!

A pause-resisting murder mystery with plenty of dogs, food, and recipes along with a couple of quirky characters – the latest in the Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery series by a two-time USA Today best-selling author.

This is a very different book for this author to tackle. Dianne’ s murders are normally single acts of jealousy, revenge, greed or profit, so to have a serial killer on the lose is a very nice change and I loved it. Liz instead of having to find the motive behind one death and occasionally two deaths, has to find the link between all the victims. There wasn’t the normal several suspects to keep you guessing but there is clues and that has you wondering how long it will before Liz catches on and of course the love able dogs are included. I hope the author keeps these fun mystery coming. When the husband of one of her guests fails to show up for there anniversary dinner, Liz isn’t to concerned, people get held up all the time. Then she gets the call from the sheriff asking her to inform the wife that she is now a widow, as he is too busy writing traffic tickets. Appalled by his behaviour Liz follows up with the medical examiner on the wife’s behalf only to find out that his body wasn’t the first body killed that way to arrive on his table and the F.B.I has been called in. With the time between bodies dropping shortening the agent, who is good friends with Liz’s husband, asks for her help as she knows the lay of the land and helped solve cases before. Can Liz work out the connect between the deaths? They all received letters with an eagle on saying they will be next, but there has to be a reason they were targets, if only she can work it out. I like the narrator, she has read a number of Dianne’s books and I Have found her to pleasant and enjoyable every time. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really enjoyed listening to Murdered by Prejudice by author Dianne Harman! Liz Lucas works with the FBI to investigate a series of murders that may be racially motivated. The killer’s warped beliefs about “real Americans” are analyzed. They are presented as so ridiculous and laughable that a listener can’t help but make comparisons to the beliefs of some hate groups members in America today. I applaud the author for having the courage to address such despicable racial hatred.

This audiobook is still at the cozy end of the spectrum, despite the serious subject matter. It isn’t gory, Dogs Winston and Brandy Boy are part of the story. Delicious sounding recipes featured throughout the book are included at the end. The characters are well developed and interesting. One of my favorites is the dislikeable elected law enforcement official, who would rather try to catch speeding drivers than investigate a series of murders.

Narrator Kasey Logan does a great job, as always.
