Description

Lt. Jack Reilly was just settling into his new life on the colony planet called New Harmony with his partner Major Mitchell, and his girlfriend Kayla. Most days in Fleet Investigations were not much more than witness interviews, low-level cases, and data work. But just as life was getting simpler, the job pulled them back to the front lines. Pirates had stolen the fleet’s newest warship. Reilly and Mitchelle are called in to help figure out who the pirates are, and what they intend to do with the deadliest ship ever built before innocent lives are lost.

Lt. Reilly and the Phantom Raptor by Matthew Duncan is an amazing space fantasy. Dave Cruse did an excellent job with the narration. The story is entertaining, interesting, engaging, enjoyable, and more. Lt. Reilly has settled into his new role and life. Pirates are becoming trouble. I enjoyed this book. I did find the story jumped around and not just because of hyper drives but because the characters had there own missions or side stories. We learnt a lot more about the characters backgrounds in this book with Kayla attending a wedding but even that had its drama. As for the main characters of Reilly and Mitchell they were deep in space making new friends, enemies and generally blowing things up. I liked the banter between the characters and especially the introduction of the AI computer Max and the grumpy commander, I hope they stick around. The case was interesting with lots of moving parts from missing space ships, prison breaks to pirates and old enemies. Looking forward to my next space mission.

As Reilly and Mitchell are winding things down so Reilly can return home to attend his father’s wedding, things go side ways and his girlfriend Kayla finds herself going alone. Can she survive meeting Reilly’s family for the first time on her own? And will Reilly make it back in time? Around up two suspects in a smuggling operations is the cause for the sideways mission when there true motives is uncovered. Reilly and Mitchell are the ones that know the enemy best , after taking down the leader and they are recalled to share there knowledge. With Pirates getting there hands on technology that shouldn’t work, it’s up to them to workout why they need the ship in the first place and stop them. An old friend of Mitchell’s father is tasked with the assignment and he will stop at nothing to get the job done, including bossing Reilly around. Can they work with each other? So Reilly can get to a wedding he doesn’t want to go to?
I like the narrator. He was out of this world.
