I have listened to a number of books in the series but not the previous two, which will be rectified, so was pleasantly surprised to find AI’s (Max in particular) playing such a big role in Reilly’s life and I loved it. Then Mitchell’s boyfriend got in the way and I needed tissue, and I also cry at Disney films, so make what you want of that. I must say I don’t like the boyfriend, actually not sure that I liked the way Mitchell handler it either, okay I must admit the characters find themselves in an unusual situation but still. Reilly continues to come up with new and inventive ways to see the mission through.
Other than that I enjoyed the fast moving story. I can’t always picture the story, the planets or the space travel as I am a cozy mystery fan at heart but there is something about this series that has me returning to get lost in another space adventure. This one was easier to follow and I liked how the bad guy always seemed to be throwing them a curve ball and it was a battle of willing to predict what he was really up. Off to start another book.
Something strange is going on in space, cargo ships are being targeted and it up to Reilly and Mitchell to figure out why. With the attacks seemingly random they have there work cut out for them. Especially when the hijackers are willing to blow up there creations or ships to stop them learning there plan but then again the ships aren’t being manned by humans or if they are they are humans from the hijacked ships. With the hijackers seemingly studying the fleets responses, the question is are they even hunting a human? Or is it more likely to be another rogue AI creation?
I liked the narrator. He has the right timber in his voice to pull off the Reilly I am picturing in my head and of course the rest of the characters.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
