Description
There has been a murder on the Baxter research station, orbiting the New Sydney colony. One of the two victims was a scientist working on a classified government project, Joel Peterson. Lt. Commander Jack Reilly is on the case, but for him it’s personal. Joel was a friend from his academy days who he owed everything. Jack will let nothing stand in his way to find the killer.

I enjoyed this book. It sort of felt like it was written in two parts. The first part was the investigation of the murder and while on a space ship it was the type you would expect from a mystery with looking at evidence and questioning suspects. Then the second part hits and we get lots of action as Reilly and Mitchell take off into space to capture there suspect.
The story also jumps around as this case is personal. With Reilly’s friend and mentor being the murder victim we get a lot of background information on the two characters as Reilly reminisces on there friendship and remembers clues to help the investigation. I like the characters, although still not sure how I feel about Mitchell after the last book I read in the series but as Kayla and the baby weren’t actually in this book and only mentioned, so all good. Don’t get me wrong this is a standalone adventure, it’s just that if you have read a few books in the series you get to know and care about the all characters.
The case was fast moving and took lots of twists especially as they have to try out maneuvering lasers and bad guys.
Looking forward to the next investigation.
Lt. commander Reilly is on his own for this case, When an old friends father calls with the news his son is dead and he wants Reilly to investigate. Reilly heads off to investigate but the simple case quickly turns complicated and he is calling in reinforcements because things are not what they seem. When Mitchell arrives things quickly heat up and they find themselves trail of a stealth ship which is killing people. Can Reilly find his friends killer and work out what was worth killing so many people for?
I liked the narrator. His gruff voice was perfect for characters and helped build a picture of the characters in my mind.
