Description

Lady Selina Durwood has been in love with Lord Robert Crestor since she was a young girl. Assuming they would eventually marry, she was surprised he released her from any such agreement when he left to join the fight against Napoleon.

During the Christmas holiday, she and her parents accept an invitation to spend time at the Crestor family estate. Believing Robert is stationed with his cavalry in Brussels, she unexpectedly encounters him as she and her maid enter the kitchen for a late-night meal.

His strange questions and behavior make it clear to Selina that Robert is confused about her feelings for him. Will she be able to convince him he is the only one for her?

He had set her free, before going off to war. However, his reasoning wasn’t because he felt his death may be imminent.
Now that he had returned, he sat on the sidelines, suffering as the woman he loved was so close, yet untouchable.

    It Wasn’t Enough

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed in exchange for an honest review.
Although I liked the audiobook, there wasn’t enough time devoted to develop true feelings for these characters. Miscues, not my favorite trope, weren’t given enough time to be believably resolved. I didn’t realize how short this story was when I picked it up. The narrator’s voice especially for Joshua, friend of Robert Crestor Selina’s ex-betrothed, evoked an un-likable persona, he was actually a friendly support for Selina. Set during the Napoleonic Wars there was plenty of material to make this into a fuller historical fiction. A frenzy of detail of food and other diversions also added to the brevity of the actual story.
