Description

I stood there, looking at this stranger with eyes like mine, hair like mine. It slowly dawned on me that it was her. After all these years…it was her. A wave of rage coursed over me as I stood there, staring at this woman. I couldn’t bring myself to call her that because she was never that to me. Just an egg donor as far as I was concerned. Then my dad spoke.

“Abriana, I would like to introduce you to Acadia…your mother.”

Abriana was forced to deal with a lot of things over the short 16 years of her life: adapting to a new neighborhood, the wondering eyes that fell on her when she was out with her father, the whispers of the town. But this – facing the woman who abandoned her at the tender age of three days old – was the one thing she wasn’t prepared to deal with.

When Abriana is forced to flee with this woman she barely knows, she soon realizes that her life will never be the same.

    A Revolution of Self

This YA novel highlights a lot in a short piece. The identity crisis of being bi-racial, the search for self as you find out more about your past, the rigid structures in place in worlds that control who and how to love, palace intrigue and more. It’s shared in the voice of a 17 year old girl going through the pain of growing into herself and learning how to navigate through these rules and traditions.

This lays the groundwork for an interstellar revolution that i hope continues to see the growth of this angry, motivated young woman as she comes into her own and sets rights the wrongs done to her by her the nature of her birth. The narration aptly captures the annoying angst of youth and transforms with her as she grows into her she will become.

    Vengeance is coming! (I hope)

I really enjoyed this book, it was action packed, full of intrigue and some great alien romance! Aubriana starts out as a teenager with a chip on her shoulder about her absent mother, when she suddenly finds out her mother is an alien and ends up in the middle of a royal coo, its time for her to grow up. There are plenty of plot twists to keep this book rivetting, I’m really hoping there will be a sequel. Unfortunately the narrator was a bit flat, but overall that didn’t ruin my enjoyment of this book
