Description

So far I have two possible fates: Die in my dorm or end up as a vampire’s slave.

There is no escape out of Nocturnal Academy’s prison school. Being here means I’ve lost my mother, my best friend, and my freedom – and it gets worse…

Now Nocturnal Academy plans to make me into a courtesan for the vampires. Unless I get a win the chance to become the one out of 100 fae who gets to shape her own fate. Topping the Placement Tests are my only hope.

But between a mysterious vampire guard confusing my feelings, my nemesis circling in on me like a viper, and a teacher who hates my guts, all my plans are falling apart. If I’m not careful, I won’t even end up as a courtesan, but as dead meat.

I absolutely loved this book, I’m so excited this is only the beginning of what promises to be a fabulous series. The plot is intense with the fae all competing for one chance to become independant – and the competition is cut throat, the characters are are easy to become invested in, I was hooked from the beginning and finished the book in one sitting, I can’t wait ’til book 2 is available on audiobook.

Nocturnal Academy is a prison school where Fae are imprisoned and unless they have magic they are trained to be courtesans for Vampires. The story follows Onyx who is hiding her magic and trying to get through daily life without attracting anyone’s attention which doesn’t go quite to plan.
I enjoyed the story but I didn’t like the narrator at all.

  3. Tera Comer

While the story was extremely interesting and I will be interested in reading more, the narrator’s voice is at an pitch that bothers me. While she did a wonderful job with the story I had a hard time staying in the story as I had to take many breaks because of the pitch.

A different look at the fae. They are not the top of the food chain. I hope that audio unleashed comes out with more books like this one.

  5. Amber Alverson

Overall a great premise for fae vs vampires. I enjoyed the prison aspect, it added a twisted bit of theme to the story. I wanted more romance, however, the slow burn romance I believe will be explored in future books. The action, drama and excitement kept me interested enough to listen in one sitting.
