Description

When Mac Faraday decides to do something, there’s no stopping him…even murder!

Not wanting to wait until their big day to start their life of wedded bliss, Mac Faraday and his lady love, Archie Monday, decide to elope to the little church where his ancestors had all married – along the tranquil shore of Deep Creek Lake. However, before they can say “I do”, the sanctuary erupts into chaos when Gnarly finds a dead body in the church office.

As they dive into the investigation, Mac and his team discover more questions than answers. What kind of person walks into a church and shoots a man for no apparent reason? How do you solve the murder of a man who has no enemies in the world? Which of the seemingly kind-hearted church members is really a cold-blooded killer?

Then, there is the all-important question, how long do Mac Faraday and his lady love have to wait to get married?

Plus, a special bonus feature: “The Gnarly Rehabilitation Program (A Gnarly Mystery Short)”. Bert and Ernie learn the hard way that crime does not pay when they dog-nap Gnarly.

Wow, this is the first book by this author that I have listened or read but it won’t be my last, in fact I was downloading the next book before I finished this. I just loved it. I must admit I wasn’t really sure going by the picture cover and the blurb whether it was going to be to preaching or if it was my sort of thing but wanted to try a different author. So glad I did and it had me questioning why was it just sat in my library for so long? I really liked the fact that there was two investigations tied up in one case and thought the author weaved the stories together nicely. But what really got me getting the next book was the characters, especially Gnarly the dog. I really enjoy animals in stories but think Gnarly and his antics put him up there with some of the best. He and his handler Mac added some light entertainment and had me chuckling away. Over all a great mystery, wonderful characters and a story you could listen to again.
Mac Faraday knows everybody wants the big expensive wedding his soon to be wife deserves but he is fed up with playing house and just wants to call her his wife. So they decide to sneak off during a lunch break with Gnarly as the best man and get the job done. The problem is Gnarly discovers a man in the church with gun shot wounds. The man does in hospital and the wedding becomes a murder investigation. He was counting the church donations but as no money is missing it seems unlikely that was the motive, then again he was beloved by all who knew him? So who killed him and why? The church cleaning lady is hiding something, an ex church member has a grudge against the church, a council member wants the church land for development but when three people come in to confess to the murder Mac and the team must work out who they are trying to protect and who the real killer is.
I liked the narrator, he seemed like he had a gruff voice but as I got to know the characters and into the story he grew on me and I enjoyed his delivery.
