I was intrigued by the premise of the story, but it didn’t pull me in like I thought it would. I didn’t really connect with the FMC, Scarlett. It’s the third book in the series and I feel like I might have enjoyed it more if I’d read the previous ones that Scarlett appears in because it felt like I was missing some context. I didn’t really get invested till about two-thirds of the way through when the story gets emotional, with Dylan talking about his past and the mystery plot really starts to take shape. It also has a light romance subplot, which has a very slow build up and doesn’t really feature until the last 3rd of the book, so if you pick it up for the romance, you’ll probably be disappointed.
I enjoyed the narration for the most part. the narrator did a great job giving the different characters distinct voices that fit their personality. Only thing is I felt she made Dylan sound older than he was, kind of gruff, like someone in their mid to late 40s. Both main characters are in their early 20s, I think.
If you’re looking for a cozy scottish small town mystery with lots of comedy, and a dash of romance. you might like this.
