Seabreeze Inn “Ivy's husband died unexpectedly and she is left to deal with the aftermath. Part of the aftermath is the fact that her husband bought a historic building on the west coast with all their retirement and savings and without her knowledge. Ivy and her sister Shelly travel west to tie up the lose ends to sell the building when suddenly they decide to keep it. Renovations begin so they can begin to rent rooms and have an income. Along the way there are hints of the past that help solve the mystery of what the ladies discover in the basement. Family, community and a high school love interest come together to get the Inn operating and to answer questions about the past. Erin Bennett delivered perfect narration for this story. You won't want this story to end. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.”
Death at the Midnight Dragonfly “This is the first book in the series I listened to and I don't think I missed much by starting with book 3. Tom is murdered at the Midnight Dragonfly, a large estate recently purchased by Vlad, a former resident of the town, now a doctor looking to do some medical studies. After an initial look at the evidence it looks like Lily's best friend's husband is guilty, but Lily knows he is innocent. She does some looking and with some help from Dixie, they stumble upon the real killer. I thought this story was well written and an easy mystery to follow. The narrator did an excellent job with voices and pacing making this an all around enjoyable book.”
Mail Order Calamity “I feel that if I was a mail order bride this would be my book. Elaina finds herself suddenly thrown into a mail order situation and is unable to cook, butcher chickens, make toast, you name it! Pete acts like he wants more of a housekeeper than a wife and judges Elaina on her housekeeping skills. When push comes to shove and Elaina finds herself in trouble Pete steps up. This was a nice easy read, well paced, with characters I can relate to, and a narrator who did an excellent job bringing the characters to life. I will be listening to this one again. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”
Looking for Love “This is the 2nd book in the Mail Order Misdelivery series, both books I have thoroughly enjoyed. Fiona left town in a hurry after being attacked by her employer. She took the train west with no destination in mind and ended up meeting someone else's intended husband at the train station. She didn't take the missing mail-order bride's name, but wished she had when she learned there might be murder charges stemming from the incident with her former employer. Fiona quickly realizes that there is more than one way to take a new name and decides to marry Sam. Add to the plot a salon girl who wishes she still had a relationship with Sam, Sam's brother who thinks that marriage should be for love, an over-zealous mother-in-law and murder charges and you have a book that moves quickly and has lots of twists and turns. The narrator did a fabulous job in all ways, including timing and characters. I always appreciate the characters penned by this author as they are honest in their daily struggles and also don't jump into bed together at the first sign of a relationship. The Trapper “Joanna was looking for an adventure and signed up to be a mail order bride. Except when she got to town her intended was drunk and proven to be a liar. Jared was living away from town in an effort to escape the gossip started by a money-grubbing young woman who said she was carrying Jared's child. Joanna and Jared it off right away when she fled town to escape her intended groom, except Joanna is worried about her intended groom finding her and Jared is worried about what will happen when Joanna hears the gossip. Once the drunk intended groom and the money-grubbing young woman make connections the relationship Jared and Joanna had been trying to hide will be tested. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the characters. Susan did well with all aspects of the narration.
